Homework Policy
There will be reading homework every night, except Friday. In
addition to reading homework, students will need to study for their weekly
spelling tests. The homework assignments should only take about 10-15 minutes
each night. You can find the homework assignments in the agenda. Each Monday
students will glue their assignments into their agenda. Please check the agenda
each night. The back of the Saxon math pages is NOT homework. However, this can
provide your child with extra practice if they are having difficulty grasping
math concepts. ALL HOMEWORK MATERIALS NEED TO BE RETURNED TO SCHOOL THE NEXT
DAY! Materials include books, sight word book, worksheets, and/or
poems.
Homework will be assigned based on your child’s reading level.
Many of the stories for homework have already been read in class. It is
important for students to reread these stories as homework to build fluency. A
fluent reader reads with expression and at an appropriate rate. As the year
progresses students will also have fluency poems to read for
homework.
In addition to reading a story, students will also be asked to practice sight words
from their sight word book. Students will need to practice one list at a time.
When a student has received a sticker they may move on to the next list and
begin practicing. Students need to be able to read these words quickly. Many of
these do not follow phonics rules and need to be memorized.
